“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…. It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.” – Melodie Beattie
Today definitely had the makings of a rough day – difficult and heart wrenching cases, economic downturn concerns, weird misunderstandings and a couple of rejections waiting for me in the inbox.
BUT…that is not the story…
The day itself actually FELT good. Hmm…why, you ask? How can that be with such “yuck” going on? The answer lies in the whole reason WHY I choose to commit to 40 days of gratitude…the change in my own attitude.
I often tell my students to imagine they are standing in the middle of a hula hoop – everything inside the hula hoop is their responsibility, outside the hula hoop are the things they can not control. Their job, I go on to say, is to take care of the inside of the hoop and let everything else just go. It is a matter of attitude and boundaries.
With the difficulties we all face in today’s world, attitude is the only thing we have that can make or break us. Really. So, today’s gratitude post has to do with a grateful heart and the attitude that goes with it. It is through this attitude that I have been able to push past my frustration (using some of my own advice regarding resiliency) and see the wonderful things around me…
Things like my fantastic family that acts as my own personal cheer squad when I try to give up on the writing thing, or some of my on-line friends that pull me up by my boot straps when I can’t seem to do it on my own, or my students that change my perspective on what’s important everyday
To all of you, and the countless others that visit the blog, validate why I do this and give me just enough to get through another hard day….
THANK YOU!!!! Today’s post is for you.
What are you guys grateful for? Leave me a comment and let me know.
Tomorrow is WIP Wednesday, followed by some exciting things for Thursday and beyond.
