Okay, so I have a question for you this beautiful Sunday…

Where do you find your inspiration? Do you have particular music that inspires? Or places? Lay it on me.

For me, I find inspiration everywhere – but in particular, with music. My latest WiP was inspired by song from Evanescence, where my novel, A BEAUTIFUL MESS was inspired by a painting.

So how about you?

  1. Life inspires. I think writers view life around us in an abstract reality. For example we may look at a landscape and zone in on one thing (a dead tree for example) that splits into infinite possibilities and stories.

For me and the type of writing I do, I delve into my own fears for inspiration. If it frightens me, it may very well frighten many others. What better way to describe the deep trials of angst and pain, than from one’s own experience? In some ways it also gives a definitive ending. For one wouldn’t want to leave a character with something they themselves fear or perhaps the fear is unresolved…

There is also an endless reserve of what gives us joy and pleasure to entertain our muse. Inspiration is wherever one looks. (Hugs)Indigo

  2. Odds and ends. I follow where the internet leads me and end up with story ideas.

Happened on an article about the youngest documented serial killer. I ended up with a murder mystery.

Found a Wiki article about Vlad the Impaler. Ho hum. Another vampire story? Nope. I googled around and found out that Vlad was called the Kazikili Bey (Impaler Prince) in the middle-east. Got a story about Vlad in the mid-east. No, you can’t have it. It’s mine.

Being of Norwegian heritage, I decided to try to get a something from the Peer Gynt story. Ended up with an inept witch living on an island in the Barents Sea.

I absolutely despise ants in my house. Ended up with a story of a woman going insane fighting an ant invasion.

Music? Not so much. I do not get listening to music while writing. I want dead silence. Am I the only one in the world without things plugged into my ears?

  3. The current WIP began as a dream. In it’s current form though, it doesn’t resemble the dream any more, that was just the launching point.

I can get inspiration from anywhere. Most often a phrase or a person will strike me and I can’t get them out of my head.

  4. I am inspired by everything/anything.

Songs, yes I’m a total Evanescence junkie too! Nature. Grocery shopping. Yep. Anything. Everything!

You never know what can get the wheels turning. 🙂
