Social Networking – a necessity in today’s world. All around us
are forums, blogs, threads and other venues to connect with writers and share
information about our work. All a good thing – in moderation.

I don’t know about you, but after a while my brain hurts and I go
on information overload. When this happens, news of the next deal, the next
marketing idea, the next….next….next… overwhelms me and I want to just

Perhaps it’s the introvert in me, but there comes a time when I am
completely burned out by the noise of the social networking around me
and I have to retreat and regroup.

So, I do. I take a weekend off (or longer). I hang-out with my RL
friends. I lose myself in a good book. I embrace the silence.

And soon, I am ready to plunge back in.

Do you guys ever feel this way? Ever need to
retreat for a bit? Regroup? What are you fav
ways of recharging from the static noise of social networking?

  1. Do I ever feel that way?

    All. The. Time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yesterday I stayed off email for the most part, read hard copy books, took a walk, visited a used book store. It was heaven.

The social media balance is very hard for me to find. You do a fantastic job, IMO.

  2. I feel the same, not with social networking, but with the world…too much infos, data, perceptions, emotions.

I have to dive in the sofa, listen to dense and complex music and let my brains do a lot of underground cleaning…

  3. Ugh. I feel this way a LOT! I can only do Twitter in small doses and even blogging can be overwhelming — so much good stuff to see and not enough time to do it all. I spent last Friday in a kayak, cruising the coast of Santa Barbara. Just what my technologically overloaded senses needed ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I think everyone feels this way sometimes! My mantra has always been: blogging (and tweeting, facebooking, whatevs) always comes last. That helps to take the pressure off the idea that I HAVE to do it.

  5. Yes, I TOTALLY feel this way from time to time. Going through a little of that now, actually & I’m just trying to push through it. But it’s nice to hear someone else say it!

For me, the IRL hang or the *gasp* PHONE CALL usually does it for me.

It’s hard, because I know how important it all is. That balance is just difficult to figure out!

    Hang in there. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Weird! I just sat down this morning and started a blog post about this exact thing! Yes, just have done the whole release thing, I totally feel this way and have the urge to just go hide back in my writing cave for a while with no wi-fi on.

  7. I definitely know how you feel. I get these moments of feeling totally overwhelmed, especially after I’ve started following a bunch of new blogs, because it suddenly feels like I have so much MORE I have to keep up with. It all involves a lot of engagement, which I enjoy (otherwise I wouldn’t do it), but I do need to pull back sometimes and just take a break.
