Today we have another installment for my advice series celebrating the launch of 101 Success Secrets for Gifted Kids: The Ultimate Guide.

Today’s guest: One of my absolute dearest friends, Michelle McLean, author of Homework Helpers: Essays and Term Papers

Michelle has an insatiable love for reading and was one of those crazy types that loved school. She earned a BS in History and a MA in English and has a knack for simplifying complicated and overly techincal material. She brings her straightforward style to her guide books on writing in an effort to help students navigate the often confusing world of Language Arts. In addition to her non-fiction, Michelle writes young adult novels under the pen name MacKenna Marquis and children’s picture books under the name Michelle Raynor. If she’s not editing, writing, or chasing her kids around, she can most often be found in a corner with her nose in a book, or quietly working on her next project. Michelle resides in Pennsylvania with her family and assorted quirky pets. She is represented by Krista Goering of The Krista Goering Literary Agency.

Take it away Michelle:

Don’t compare yourself to others. Most of the misery in my life has come from comparing myself to someone else. It took a very long time to learn that I was a pretty cool person, all on my own.

Everyone’s journey through life is different and no good ever comes from comparing yourself to someone else. Everyone has their own trials, their own talents, their own limitations, their own hopes and dreams. You are your own wonderful, unique YOU and no one else can do the things that you do or be the person you will be, quite like you will.

Oh Man! Comparisons…yeah, I need this advice too!

  1. Excellent advice, Michelle, and so true. Everyone is cool in their own way and being your own individual is the only way to be.
