This week’s Bookanista love features the following:

Now, on to my Bookanista Shout out…

You all know I LOVE covers. Well, I also love this amazing group of writers I find myself with, the BOOKANISTAS (and yeah, no idea how I wound up with them…must have paid someone off I guess). So, getting to praise and show some love for the covers and upcoming books of the BOOKANISTAS is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s start with Bookanista Kirsten Hubbard’s LIKE MANDARIN

Why I Love It: It’s the face…There is smething sad and strong about it. It really draws me in. My kind of cover!

About the Book: Here’s the scoop on the book, taken from Amazon:

It’s hard finding beauty in the badlands of Washokey, Wyoming, but 14-year-old Grace Carpenter knows it’s not her mother’s pageant obsessions, or the cowboy dances adored by her small-town classmates. True beauty is wild-girl Mandarin Ramey: 17, shameless and utterly carefree. Grace would give anything to be like Mandarin.

When they’re united for a project, they form an unlikely, explosive friendship, packed with nights spent skinny-dipping in the canal, liberating the town’s animal-head trophies, and searching for someplace magic. Grace plays along when Mandarin suggests they run away together. Blame it on the crazy-making wildwinds plaguing their badlands town.

Because all too soon, Grace discovers Mandarin’s unique beauty hides a girl who’s troubled, broken, and even dangerous. And no matter how hard Grace fights to keep the magic, no friendship can withstand betrayal.

Then, of course we have Bookanista Beth Revis’ ACROSS THE UNIVERSE

Why I Love It: This cover screams sci-fi (a love of mine), romance and intrigue – everything I want in a great new book. After reading the first chapter, man oh man…I MUST HAVE MORE!

About the Book: Here’s the scoop on the book, taken from Goodreads:

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone—one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship—tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn’t do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now, Amy must race to unlock Godspeed’s hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there’s only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming

The Particulars: Release date – January 11, 2011 by Razorbill. Find it on Goodreads and Amazon.

I know Bookanista’s Lisa and Laura MUST have a cover they are hiding from us, but that won’t stop me from raving about their book LIAR SOCIETY. I guess we have to pretend they have a cover!

Yeah, I know…I wish there was a pretty cover looking back at me too! But I am sure there will be and soon! In the mean times, check out the book! IT LOOKS SO GOOD!!!

About the Book: Here’s the scoop on the book, taken from Goodreads:

Kate Lowry didn’t think dead best friends could send e-mails. But when she gets an e-mail from Grace, who died mysteriously a year before, she’s not so sure.

Kate,
I’m here…
sort of.
Find Cameron.
He knows.
I shouldn’t be writing.
Don’t tell.
They’ll hurt you.

Kate has no choice but to play detective and prove once and for all that Grace’s death was more than just a tragic accident. The emails continue and Kate is forced to confront the school’s resident druggie, a sketchy administrator and even her own demons.

As she moves closer and closer to the truth, she teams up with a couple of knights-in-(not so)shining armor–the dangerously attractive, bad boy, Liam and her love-struck neighbor, Seth.

The three uncover an ancient secret lurking in the halls of their elite private school with the power to destroy them all.

But the truth doesn’t always set you free. Sometimes it’s only the beginning.

The Particulars: Release date – March 1, 2011 by Sourcebooks Fire. Find it on Goodreads and Amazon.

And finally Elana Johnson’s, POSSESSION.

Why I Love It: This is one of the best covers I’ve seen this year! I think it’s the white cover – so stark. And the butterfly trapped in ice – so sad, haunting, poetically tragic…just like the book. They really captured so much of the book in this cover. AMAZING.

About the Book: Here’s the scoop on the book, taken from Elana’s blog:

In a world where rules aren’t meant to be broken, fifteen-year-old Violet Schoenfeld must make a choice: control or be controlled.

The Particulars: Release date – June, 2011 by Simon Pulse. Find it on Goodreads.

  1. Awesome. These are all so cool (except LiLa’s, which sucks) but I especially love Possession and Across the Universe. And no, not only because I “know” the authors.

  2. christine, thanks so much for featuring Like Mandarin. a couple days ago I was looking at Elana and Beth’s covers and considering posting the same thing — I think we’ve really lucked out! let’s hope this bookanistas streak of standout covers continues. besides Lisa & Laura, I think Scott and Michelle should be receiving covers soon.

  3. Love the choices!!! I’m with you on the Liar Society! I think they’re hiding the cover from us! I’m sure it’s going to be amazing, just like their book! Like Mandarin was one I had just heard about and now I’m very excited to read it and Beth’s, Elana’s and Lisa & Laura’s has been on my list for MONTHS now!
